What's new

What has changed in METEO / Atlas, version by version, newest first. Only what you notice when you use it, one line per change.

v1.18 The weekend, weather for your website and easy mode

Latest

  • The weekend: if you like, on Thursday evening your phone gets the weather for Saturday and Sunday for up to 3 of your places, with warnings and when it will rain.
  • Easy mode: very large text, high contrast, a button to hear it read aloud and "Will it rain?" answered with yes, maybe or no. Try it at /panel?vista=facil.
  • Weather for your website: a free, cookie-free box with the weather for your town, AEMET warnings and the radar, for council, media, club or school websites.
  • For councils and civil protection: a traffic light for each critical spot (streams, flood-prone crossings, forest areas…) for today and the next 3 days, with the reasons, a printable report and an alert when a spot turns red.
  • Which model is most accurate where you are? In the Enthusiast and PRO views, the models ranked by how far off they were at nearby stations over the last month, for temperature, wind and rain.
  • The Enthusiast and PRO views, the sectors, the notebook, teams, and emails and notifications, in Catalan and English too.
  • A tidier simple view: the main things first, with quick questions, air, pollen and "What's the weather like where you are?" folded away with a summary, and buttons that are easier to tap on a phone.
  • This what's new page: the version number at the bottom of the dashboard links here and, when you come back after a new version, a small notice tells you.

v1.17 Lightning nearby and school mode

  • Thunderstorm alert: we let you know when lightning strikes within 10, 20 or 30 km, how far away it is, whether it is getting closer and, if you like, when the danger has passed.
  • On the map, lightning from the last quarter of an hour, with 10, 20 and 30 km rings around your place.
  • The lightning alert is one tap away in the simple view and in the events and forestry sectors.
  • School mode: a page for teachers with five worksheets on forecasting, radar and pressure for the classroom.
  • Class challenge: pupils, with no account, forecast tomorrow's high and rain, and the next day it is compared with what actually happened.
  • The website explains everything new in What you can do and How it works, and the menu now links to Accuracy and Schools.

v1.16 Instant alerts and a more useful simple view

  • Rain-on-the-way alert: "Rain in ~25 min", worked out from the radar, and it tells you if it will be snow.
  • A phone notification when AEMET issues an orange or red warning for your area.
  • Your places: save up to 10 (without an account, they stay in your browser).
  • A morning summary on your phone, at the time you choose, with warnings and whether you need an umbrella.
  • Quick questions: hang the washing out?, water the garden?, cycle at 6 pm?, jacket?, umbrella?
  • Comparison with normal: "today, 3 °C warmer than usual for the time of year".
  • Air quality, pollen and UV index for your place.
  • Share the weather for your place as an image, ready for your phone.
  • "What's the weather like where you are?": tell us what you see and it shows on the map for an hour.
  • The Atlas Forecast shows how accurate it is: "yesterday here it was 0.8 °C off" on its card and on the Accuracy page.
  • Atlas Forecast temperature up to 72 h wherever it beats the models, plus snow and snow level.
  • New Farming sector: irrigation guide, chill hours, degree-days and downy mildew risk.
  • Evening-before report by email for events, routes, forestry and farming.
  • A Telegram bot to ask for the weather and get your alerts, and a weather calendar for your diary.
  • Alerts reach you in the dashboard language you created them in.

v1.15 The dashboard in your language

  • The dashboard in Spanish, Catalan and English: choose ES · CA · EN in the top bar.
  • Tapping the map no longer moves your place: it opens a bubble with the value at that point and a "See the weather here" button.
  • In English, AEMET warnings show their official English text.
  • The version number, at the bottom of the dashboard.

v1.14 Atlas Forecast

  • Atlas Forecast for the next 48 h in Catalonia: our own forecast, which blends six models and corrects them with what weather stations measure.
  • "Now, observed" uses the nearest AEMET or Meteocat station, outside Catalonia too.

v1.13 Buy us a coffee

  • If you like the project, you can buy us a coffee on Ko-fi from Support us.
  • Cookie notice with "Accept" and "Reject" equally visible, and you can change your mind from the footer.

v1.12 Free and for learning

  • METEO / Atlas is free, with no ads or subscriptions; if you'd like to help, see Support us.
  • The website pages, in Catalan and English too.
  • Links that open the dashboard with a view and a place: for example, /panel?vista=simple&lugar=Mataró.

v1.11 A living home page

  • The home page shows live wind, with particles moving over the map and the temperature in ten cities.
  • A new design for the website pages, in light and dark, and still if your device asks for reduced motion.

v1.10 A website to explain it all

  • A new home page at atlasmeteo.es; the dashboard moves to /panel and old links still work.
  • What you can do and How it works pages, to understand the dashboard before you go in.

v1.0 – v1.9 Pilot launch

  • A weather map of Spain and Europe with radar, satellite, lightning and official AEMET warnings.
  • Three views of the same data: Simple, Enthusiast and PRO.
  • Six weather models side by side, with the chance of rain and how confident we are about each day.
  • Alerts tailored to you (rain, wind, heat…) by email and on your phone, plus "Did we get it right?" to tell us if they came true.
  • Sectors for professionals: wildfire risk, outdoor events and road transport, with an API.
  • A case notebook to study past weather events.
  • Built for phones: the answer first, "My location", and it installs like an app.
  • Light or dark theme and several base maps: streets, satellite, terrain…
  • An account with a password to keep your alerts, your place and your view.
  • Works with a keyboard and a screen reader, with good contrast in light and dark.
  • A guided tour the first time you open each view (the "?" button replays it).
